Alfred Gutsa

Alfred Gutsa was born on the 30th of August, 1975 at Nyadire Hospital in Mtoko, Zimbabwe. He attended school where he completed Ordinary and Advanced General Certificates of Education. In 1996 he started sculpting on his own and in 1999, was invited to join the sculpting studio of Dominic Benhura, a noted Shona sculptor who has exhibited and sold pieces world wide, to join his sculpting studio. Since joining his studio, Gutsa too has had the opportunity to exhibit and sell his work abroad.

Among his exhibitions, and awards are Certificate of Recommendation, First Zimbabwe Biennale, 1998; Third Prize, Artist’s Against Poverty, 1998; 1st Prize in Three Dimensions, National Arts Merits Award, 2002; Exhibition Alliance Francaise - Object of Power or Power of Object was the theme, 2003; Workshop at Kriston Bank, 2004; Hope Exhibition in Germany, 2004; Workshop in Denmark at Johs Museet,. 2004; Workshop in Denmark at Kerteminde. 2006; Hope Exhibition – Germany, 2006
