Peter Mandala (1951-2005)

Peter Mandala was born in 1951 in the Marondera District in Zimbabwe and is of Malawian descent.  

Peter left school after completing two years of high school when he joined the Cannon Paterson Art Centre in Harare.  He spent two years there sculpting heads and abstracts before going out on his own.

Peter developed a distinctive style which is much-sought after now.  He specializes in pieces worked in highly polished and beautifully finished jet black serpentine as well as opal stone and verdite.

He works mainly on small to medium sized stones depicting a vast range of human expressions, some of his pieces being titled “Lovers”, “Feeling Cold”, “Rain man” and “Thinkers”.

Peter’s works are exhibited in several galleries in Zimbabwe and have been sold throughout Europe and the United States.
