Luis Felipe Oviedo was born in Cuba in 1948. A child prodigy, he started painting pictures of his friends when he was 8 years old. He still uses everyday people as his “models”- passers by, whom he does not need to pose, all he needs is a glimpse of their bodies, a smell, or the texture of their skin-he then transforms those memories into stories reflected in his paintings. A master of a style now referred to a “neomedievalism. Oviedo’s work reveal superb drawing skills and a passion for the baroque; while often violent, his work unites love and the beauty, the forbidden and the ugly, ambiguity and irony, earth and sea, magic and reality, all "harmonizing" in a Caribbean concert.

A graduate of the Institute for Industrial Design of Havana, Luis Felipe Oviedo has worked as a designer/ illustrator for numerous local and international press organs and magazines. He has exhibited extensively in Cuba and has had had some 30 group and 10 solo shows in Latin America, and Europe. His works are in collections in the United States, Sweden, Norway,Denmark, France, Portugal, Spain, Italy,Mexico, Argentina, Panama and Chile.
